PADDY ADVENTURE Jungle Trekking report | Bali activity

May 19th, 2009, I visited PADDY ADVENTURE on the day! At first, I planned to cover Paddy Trekking which we walk around the rice terrace, however, the guide recommended me, “Jungle Trekking has more fun!” so, I changed my plan on the day… In addition, he gave me advice to change clothes, so I was wondering how sweaty course it was. Anyway, I finish changing my clothes and go ahead to the starting point, Batukau Temple!

Sorry, this menu is finished selling.

Shuttle cars have AC. There is PADDY ADVENTURE’s logo on the back. From resort area to the trekking place, it takes 1.5 to 2 hours by car. Little farther than Ubud.

We stop by Paddy Restaurant and check-in. There is no WC on the way of trekking, so don’t forget to go to WC!

The finishing point of trekking is also this restaurant, and there are lockers and hot-shower. Put your belongings to the locker, and change your clothes if you need. ☆

After preparation, we move 10 min. by car. Here is the starting point, Batukau Temple! This is one of the historic 6 temples of Bali. There are many regulations on the board. “Pregnant women cannot enter.” and “Children don’t have tooth cannot enter.” etc… Trekking starts from in front of Batukau Temple, however, the course doesn’t include entering the temple. But, I think some applicants want to enter the famous temple because they come to in front of it! So, I negotiated with PADDY ADVENTURE!! Applicants have to pay the entrance fee (donation) by themselves, but they give time to visit Batukau Temple before the trekking! If you want to visit the temple, please tell about it to the guide beforehand♪

Beside the temple, there is the big shrine for 3 Lakes of Budugul (Bratan, Tamblingan and Buyan Lake). It locates in the big pond, and the view is really mysterious in quiet surroundings.

Passing the shrine, we go into the forest!! According to the regulation of Wanyang Gede Village, tree felling or hunting animal is prohibited in the forest. We climb up the narrow road which is used by village people to go to enshrine Jerosasah Temple on the top hill… Surprisingly, the road is really hard!! The soil is wet and slippery, and there is the high step that I cannot climb up without help!! I wish I would wear mountain shoes with studs…

“Are we there?” “Not yet?!” We had such conversations, and after 30 min. finally, went out the forest and arrived at the temple. It’s happy break time! This temple enshrines God of rice field, Dewi Sri, and it was built in 2008 new shrine. When the time of planting and harvesting rice, village women wear beautiful kubaya and bring offerings on their heads throughout the forest road… that’s .the superhuman feat!!! The guide gives us mineral water. Oh, I need it… I’m very thirsty so thanks for water!!! Guide has rain courts on his backpack besides mineral water.

We take a break for a while, and we climb down on the calm slope in the forest. (´0`*)

While walking, guide explains about plants and spices on the way. This is medicine herb, Temen. Good effect for scar andscratch.

Demyng, it’s kind of herbs. It is used when boiling chicken. Wild jackfruit! It’s famous fruit as durian. The fruit is very very sweet and sticky on hands!

Wild banana, vivid red hibiscus, big mushroom, and so on, there are many things in the forest!!

Continuing calm slope of mountain road. We cannot see car, motor bike, or village people and it’s so quiet… Yeah, it’s because we walk in the rural area and further rural mountain road.

Guide found something from branch… It is the shellfish living in the forest (unknown detail). It can be eaten… and tasty, he said.

Wanyang Gede Village is famous for high quality bamboo. We met a village man brought gigantic bamboo stems! Even in Bali, such a long bamboo is rare.
While he dragged the bamboo, it hits on the ground and has nice sounds.

We climb down to the foot of mountain. The road is proved well, and we can see wide view of rice terrace and field.

The second break time in this banjar (village meeting place). We get mineral water from the guide again. The rice field in this area is in harvesting season!! The ears of rice are accumulating on the road.

Throughout rice terrace and Hindu temples in the village… Arrive at the Paddy Restaurant from the back side! We are done 2.5 hours trekking.

Maybe, I feel everything good taste now because I’m too hungry!! We eat lunch set at the open cafe style restaurant. This is my second time to eat lunch at this restaurant and I like this just good portion of lunch. There are Chicken and Beef Stir Fry and Mie Goreng with rice. Lunch after exercise is really tasty!! Thank you for PADDY ADVENTURE ヾ(≧▽≦)ノ

This time, I changed my plan on the day and tried Jungle Trekking, but it was good exercise for me! It’s high level of using body calorie and enjoying wild nature. The trekking place is totally rural area of Bali, so you can stay far from nosiness of resort area. The first 30 min. trekking is very hard, but after that, you just walk on calm down slope. So, please just overcome the hard road as your training. It’s nice to walk in quiet wild nature while listening to birds and sounds of wind!! My legs got tired but my mind was really healed.

When I finished, I was so sweat, so I recommend you to bring clothes for change. Behind the restaurant, there are shower rooms and you can lend a towel. It’s good to take a shower before you leave there. Perhaps, it’s little bit too hard for small kids and aged people, but if you want to try farther wild trekking, I recommend this tour!!

Aiko’s Scale Nature:★★★★★ Tiredness:★★★★★
