BALI ADVENTURE Mountain Cycling report | Bali activity

On May 8th, 2009, I joined Mountain Cycling in BALI ADVENTURE! It’s the unique cycling tour; we ride a bicycle for 26 km to Elephant Park which is also the company owned. After we arrive at the goal, we can have gorgeous lunch buffet, plus, we can enjoy walking around the park; such as touching to elephants, checking elephant goods, and so on! Aiko reports today.

Today’s weather is… heavy rain!! But, weather in Bali is unstable, so I believe that it will be fine later. I leave Jimbaran at 7:45 am. When I arrived at the starting point, see, the rain stopped! Land height is 1450 m, it’s nice view!

From the second floor of restaurant, it’s great view like a post card!!! Don’t forget to take pictures in here! We just use the restaurant as the starting point, so they don’t offer meals. We finish go to bathroom and prepare for cycling, and then, choose a bicycle at the parking.

He is the today’s guide, Misteli. He is the longest work experience as the cycling guides in the company, and he can do diving and trekking also. We get a mineral water bottle. As it on the picture, we can put the bottle in the pocket on bicycle. Leaving jacket and other staffs on the shuttle car.

The bicycle is the normal type; it had gears in both sides. They don’t offer globes, so you had better bring your own globes. I wear sun lotion a lot on my skin, start cycling!!☆ In other companies, sometimes, we pass bad road even it is covered by concrete, but today’s cycling course is more clean and well-proved. It’s easier to ride!!♪♪

←We stop by the fruit farm. This tree is Bali orange! The orange skin is green. I have never seen orange color orange in Bali.

Misteli leads is to off-road. It’s bumping, I have pain on my butt! He checks applicants’ condition, and sometimes he tries such a road on the way. When I was young, I could easily ride a bicycle…

From the left side, Mandarin, Taro, Kindergarten.
Misteli said, “That’s Kindergarten!” but I couldn’t realize it at first…

And then, we arrived at BAYUNG GEDE village where I was most interested in this tour! Can you see the feature of the village is different from other normal villages? Here is the place that the native Balinese people, “Bali Aga” are living in!! This is not a sightseeing place, but the real village. Usually, it’s difficult to enter!!
I listen to Misteli’s lecture curiously…

1. The size of the village is big and there are 500 families, about 4000 people are living in.
2. They have to get married within the village people. If a man from other village wants to merry with a woman in Bayung Gede Village, he must pay a big amount of betrothal money.
3. Once in 4 years, the marriage meeting is held in the village jungle for 1 week. Unmarried men and women go into the jungle, and they can freely chat and find partners.

He explained these kinds of story. Wow, it’s interesting!! Different from other villages, Bayung Gede Village keeps their ancient custom strictly. I learned another deep Bali… I couldn’t help exciting and visiting the village to see the interesting architect houses and small temples.

Throughout the village, we arrived at the jungle of marriage meeting. Here is a sort of place for religious ceremony. The ceremony is… Coconut bending on the tree is the answer. In this village, after delivery, women put their placenta into coconut shell, and bend it here.

It’s a big village, so we need energy to through. I finished up slope with my fight, reached the break point warung. We take 15 min. break in here! Whuuu!(ノ´▽`)ノ☆ The car cannot enter the village, so the escort car is waiting here. Well-prepared for just in case. Safety is priceless!!

The second visiting point, Balinese house. We taste the fruit on their garden.

The house is in the cycling course, however, it’s just simple Balinese house. We look the family temple, old fashioned kitchen, the bed room next to the kitchen, and so on. Children are fascinated by making kites. Misteli also tells them how to make it better.

Leaving the house, we go down again. The visiting points are only Bayung Gede Village and the Balinese house, and after that, we listen to the lecture while riding bicycle.

Passing speedy to Pisang village, Patas village, and Blong village. The last up-hill slope… Just walk to get off bicycle.

Goal! We arrived at Elephant Safari Park in Taro village. We smoothly rode a bicycle all way through, so I felt the riding time was short, however, it was passed for 2 hours 40 min.!
We get off bicycles and go to the restaurant while wiping face by cool towel.♪

I wanted to see the elephant show! 3 Sumatra elephants play basketball, soccer, bring human with their neck… You must be surprised how they are clever in 10 min. show.

I have missed their lunch buffet!! I joined to cover almost all activities, but honestly,
BALI ADVENTURE’s lunch is delicious!! I found new menu, Tempura and Spaghetti Bolognese. Happy!!♪♪

After the happy lunch time, we have free time to look around the park. The park is really clean and looks like a botanical garden, so it’s nice to walk, to see the big mammoth replica, and go to the gift shop. Enjoy your time in Elephant Park!!

In addition, Cycling + Elephant Safari including 30 min. Elephant Ride is also good course to try!

This was the third time cycling for me. So, I get used to ride a bicycle for this time!

Comparing to other companies; 1. Not many visiting places to get off bicycle (only 2 places: Bali Aga, Bayung Gede Village and Balinese House), 2. Keep riding a bicycle and going down with speed, 3. The road is almost well-proved and easier to ride.

The cycling route is almost on the well-proved road, and depends on the applicants’ condition, you can go to the off-road. If you have request, feel free to ask to the guide on the day, such as “I want to try the hard road!” and “I prefer the easiest course.” I tried the mixed course, normal-road + off-road, but I used up my energy!! Next day, I have muscle ache as usual. The route has 60 % down-hill slope, 30 % flat road, and 10 % up-hill slope, maybe. Of course, it’s okay to stop on the way to drink water and take pictures!

When all is said and done, it is the only one cycling tour that Sumatra elephants are waiting for you at the finishing point! I can understand the price is little bit expensive for this tour because it includes free Elephant Park entrance, delicious lunch, and touching elephants. It must be a good memory for kids if they can touch elephants and get a flower ring from elephants!!

I recommend this tour for people who want to enjoy cycling without getting off bicycle many times on the way, and for family travelers including children!!

●○Report Memo○●
In this Mountain Cycling, they don’t offer globes. While riding bicycle on down-hill slope with using brakes, your hands might be pain. If you are worried, you should bring your own globes.
Additionally, in Elephant Park, don’t miss to meet the famous baby elephants that were born in March and April ♪
