Elephant Camp (Carangsari village) report | Bali activity

April 6th, 2009, I visited one of the elephant parks in Bali, Elephant Camp! Today, I cover “Elephant + Rafting Tour” which has good time schedule and is reasonable price. First, enjoy the elephant short ride for 30 min. and go to rafting in Ayung River. I visited Elephant Park in Taro village the other day, so I’m curious differences of two parks.☆

Elephant Camp is located in the hill of Ayung Valley, and it’s not big park, however, the park garden is really organized like a golf course. I had good impression to very kind staffs.

Elephant Camp is located in Carangsari village, east Ubud. Through the gate sign, arrive at Elephant Camp in 5min.! It’s big park.

Here are they! Elephants are washed their bodies in the pond near the entrance. Staffs wash them with big brushes. The different side of pond, there is the good view restaurant and reception building. Balinese architecture, cozy building site.

Guests check-in and pay fees in here. In Elephant Camp, they offer the insurance which covers US$100,000 maximum. Well prepared, no fear, yah. Just after arrive there, they offer welcome drink! It was Markisa Juice with Ata glass cover. It’s sour and I like it!!(^▽^)!!

Napkin ring is also the elephant motive, You can purchase this basket for $2. It’s not for you, but for elephants’ feeding!

It’s inconspicuous, but there are some souvenirs on the corner of the restaurant! This tea set is $14. They are little bit dusty, but all cute!! I wanted to buy, but I didn’t have enough money…

After taking break with juice, go to Elephant Ride! Jessica (elephant), and trainer Alex walk with me today. Like this, ride on elephant from the high step. On the back of elephant, the wooden bench with safety bar is set up. Two persons can ride on at one time.

30 min. walking! It’s high to sit down on back of elephant. Good view. We pass the green promenade like this. Many monkeys are living around there and show their cute faces. I cannot catch them on my camera because they move quickly!

By the way, it’s very hot. You have to protect your skin! It’s hot, but I feel calm while walking on the quiet green forest with elephant. ∩(´∀`)∩

On the way, Alex offers me, “Do you want to sit down here (elephant’s neck)?” Oh, but, there is the special seat for only trainer… However, he says okay, and I decide to try! Tie rope to the tree nearby, and I move slowly from bench to her neck…

Wow, it’s warm!!
I can feel elephant’s body temperature. My legs come to elephant’s ears, so her big ears hit my legs.

I wonder that Jessica gets angry because a stranger sits down on her neck… I checked to Alex whether she gets angry or not, but he just smiles, “No problem!” I was scared, but I could have good experience!

We go forward; there are many fruit and banana leaves on the road. Maybe, here is the snack point for hungry elephants.

Jessica stops walking and starts eating. Trainer gets off and takes pictures of us!!

As it is, if you ask, you can sit down on elephant’s neck, and trainer takes pictures in your requesting places.

You visit here to play with elephants, take lots of pictures!! ( ´ ∇ ` )

We walk inside of the park site for 30 min. and come back. We go into the pond with elephant! You can ask trainer to take pictures in here, too. You can see elephant’s nose splash!!

We go back to the starting point and finish 30 min. riding! If you prefer longer time riding, I recommend 60 min. Long Ride.

I bring the basket that I bought just before, and go to see Jessica!

She grabs by her nose banana, corn, and pineapple, etc. She finishes one after another. Their appetite has no end!!

Alex says, “we have a bear, too.” I’m wondering, “Why a bear living here? Not scared?” and just go to see the bear. The bear is the smallest bear in the world, Helarctos Malayanus!! They also live in Indonesia, the omnivorous bear.

Today, I cover Elephant Camp as well as Elephant Park in Taro village. I visited both places, and I thought both places have different attracting points. When you choose either one, you should think about what you want to do in the place.

Elephant Park has great facilities and service, on the other hand, Elephant Camp is cozy establishment such as reception, pond, and trekking course. They don’t have Elephant Show. However, they offer reasonable price, and they have 60 min. Long Ride course, too.

You choose the length of ride time, you consider price, or you want to enjoy atmosphere… Please think about what you want!
