Night Elephant Safari (Taro village) report | Bali activity | Hiro Chang Group Company - Sightseeing Tours

In August, 2009, I visited Elephant Park again! Aiko visited here for Safari Ride, Cycling, and Trekking, so this is my fourth time visiting. I feel familiar with Elephant Park now! On the other hand, Takumi is the first visiting there and Elephant Ride! Today, we tried Night Safari Tour including dinner course for adults!

We left Jimbaran around 3:00 pm, and arrive there 5:00 pm! It locates in northern Ubud, so we enjoy driving on the way. Hello again! At the reception, read the agreement form and write signature. I wear long sleeve shirt, because it’s mountain side and chilly!

Study about the elephant in the museum beside the lobby. Their life span is about 40 years, and they bear twin baby sometimes!. Elephants have meal time now. They eat big amount of coconut tree in each place.

I found new thing today. Here is the brand new gift shop which opens the other day!!

In the shop, there are many elephant goods that owner gather from all over the world. And they are so cute!! Fancy goods lovers must fall in love this shop!

All elephant goods!! The prices are not so cheap, but good design and quality. The cute soap for souvenir (Rp.25,000）, the patchwork kids one-piece （Rp.500,000～）, thousands dollar antique ornament, and jewels, etc. You may buy or may not buy, you can enjoy shopping in the shop!

This is the gallery of elephant paintings. The introductions of elephants’ manes, such as “The most popular painter,” “Painter with wild mind,” and “Good at creative painting,” etc. They made me laugh.

Owner Mr. Nigel loves flowers and he grows plants for himself.
There are many flowers and greens in the park!

Now, it’s 5:30 pm. Guests who visit day-time usually leave around that time, and not many people in the park. Therefore, we can touch to elephants not in hurry! This is the good point of Night Safari.

The right side elephant with big tusks is Lucip, 25 year-old. The left side elephant with small eyes is Alun, 29 year-old. They have good appetite and active, so I feel their power between them, but they are really kind!

Next, we go to see a 6 months-old baby elephant, Gantanｇ. He is touching to his mom. Pretty!!

Gantang only drinks milk. He cannot use his nose, yet, so now practicing. His nose is small!!

Park guide, Made is very good friend of Gantang! He suckles Made’s finger. He thinks the finger is his mom’s breast.

Gantang just wakes up from his nap, and good mood. He comes closer to the fence. It’s not always happen, so I’m lucky!

We arrived at the park around 5:00 pm, so we spend enough time to enjoy touching to elephants until Elephant Show starts. I like this slow time! The show is the same program as day-time show. Elephants play basketball, play hula-hoop, and splash water from nose…. Around that time, the temperature goes down, and I feel chilly! I wear long sleeve outfit, but still chilly…. You should bring a thick jacket with you!!

After the show, we try Night Safari. I ride with Takumi. Let’s go! It’s little bit cloudy, so they give us a big umbrella. We enjoy the ride for 25 min. and walk the different Taro forest route than day-time route. As you see in the picture, it’s already dark outside and no light.

We cannot see the forest view, so we just enjoy darkness quiet forest with birds’ and bugs’ singing. In the cool air, I could feel warm body of elephant touching to my feet! After that, we enjoy eating the 4 kinds of dishes course dinner in the outdoor restaurant and left there around 9:00 pm. Thank you very much!

Last time, I tried Safari Ride Tour in day-time and Night Safari this time. I like both… but I would say, if you prefer walking with elephants or visit there with family. I recommend Safari Ride Tour; if you seek good atmosphere and dishes or visit there with your partner and couples, Good to choose Night Safari. Safari Ride Tour’s walking route is longer than Night Safari Elephant Ride, so I felt the riding time was also longer. (They say “30 min.” for both tours.) For enjoy view of jungle or feel safari mood, Safari Ride is good choice.

On the other hand, Night Safari starts the time when not many people visit the park, so you can have enough time to enjoy touching elephants and meet baby elephants. Moreover, the outdoor restaurant for Night Safari which set up every day has good atmosphere and dishes are looks good and delicious! Candle light in darkness, wine glasses, and elephants’ silhouette on background…
How romantic composition!! You should remember that you cannot see surrounding view and it’s getting cold at night, so you had better bring thick jacket and preventing mosquitoes. Please choose your favorite course!

When I arrive at the park, I feel the temperature is lower than Southern area of Bali.
Through the entrance where the elephant skeleton, walk on the promenade. I saw the rare fish from Africa (looks like coelacanth) and carp.
From 18:45 pm by the time of Elephant Show, about 2 hours, we are free to look around the park. Checking souvenir, watching elephants, taking lecture from elephant guides… We can try feeding to elephants, too.

I tried feeding. The elephant is very close to me, so I feel his breath and see his nose hold food really well. Elephant’s skin is hard and dry.

I had 30 min. by the show time, so I walked around the park. Along sunset, it’s getting dark and the promenade is lighting up. Writing on previous Elephant Ride report, there are lodges in the park. There are bar and pool.

Both sides are the room like cottage. This picture is the promenade between rooms. Trees are also lighting up and beautiful. Here is the restaurant for lunch buffet. I take a break until the show starts. You can order drink but have to pay by yourself.
And then, Elephant Show time!!

Elephant Show goes not too much excitement for me, but people give hands for their great performance.

I was waiting Elephant Ride! We start from the park. Walk slowly but sway. Move and stop, the elephant follow the trainer’s sign. I could see their loyalty-like relationship.

As you see on the picture, there are some lights on the road, but it’s better to say only moon light. I cannot see the view so just feel dark atmosphere.

It’s dinner time. I live in Bali for over 1 year, today I found delicious Western dish. Honestly. I cannot say good comment, but it was delicious. If the quality of dishes improves more, I would call it “Dinner with Elephant Ride.” Dinner information is below↓

From Night Safari Tour, I thought that you should plan to enjoy half and half, Elephant Ride and Dinner.

Overall, the time schedule has enough room to enjoy slow time. It is still bright when you arrive there so you can see elephants, and through evening to night, you can see different faces of elephants. The fixed number of applicants is 20 maximum, so you never be hurry throughout the tour. So, you can enjoy your own pace. Point: Bring your jacket.

Romantic Dinner

Beyond our expectation, 4 kinds of dinner dishes are really delicious. We take pictures while we are patient with appetite. The dishes are mixed French and Indonesian food. It’s beautiful dish up and big volume! It’s not just small portion of food on a big plate. Besides 4 kinds of dishes, they serve mineral water and home-made bread which you can ask another helping for free. On the day, we could choose menu from 2 main courses.
