TELAGAWAJA ADVENTURES Rafting report | Bali activity

May 1st, 2009, I visited the second company which I cover Telagawaja River rafting, TELAGAWAJA RAFTING. This company is Bali’s local rafting company, but they offer shuttle service, 12 km rafting course, and lunch buffet, which are same course menu as other companies. Moreover, the price is really reasonable. The point I like is that only 70 steps to climbing down to the river!! I had thrilling experience last time in Telagawaja River, so I’m little bit anxious this time. Aiko reports today!

Leave at 8:00 am, and go to Telagawaja River. We passed one of the rice terraces of Bukit Jambul on the way! Rice terrace, jungle, and Indian Ocean far away… wow, it’s great view!!

If we have enough time, we can take pictures in the view point. Ask driver. The shuttle car is MITSUBISHI CLTO. The view from window changes from city, village, to jungle for 2 hours driving. It’s in the mountain side, so it’s cool!

Have a break with coffee and tea. Reception is cozy and local atmosphere. Finish payment and fill out application form.

Dressing room. The wall was warped, so I couldn’t rock the door. I already wear my bathing suit under my clothes, so I just changed my pants quickly.

WC is Indonesian style hand-powered flush water WC. Tissue is prepared. The building is old like you see in pictures, so if you mind, you had better change your clothes in the hotel beforehand.

About bags and belongings, they bring them by car to the ending point as same as other companies. You can bring valuables in the water-proof bag, I think a small bag would be useful. Put the small bag into plastic bag, and then, put it in the water-proof bag.

Life-jacket is new and looks nice. Helmets are well-used, but no problem for using. He is the today’s guide, Wayan. 10 guides belong to BALI ADVENTURES.

Prepare everything, and go to Telagawaja River! On the picture, just upper left place is the starting point.
It’s only about 20 steps to climbing down stairs and throughout rice field! How it’s easy!(*´∇`*) We go into river from here. The starting point is next to INTERNATIONAL RAFTING.

I had married couple as my rafting members! They visited Bali two times, Jordan and Christer from Germany. The boat is basic, HOJO brand. Sky blue color is cool!

Check boat air, practice rowing and signs, and then we start rafting. 12 km long, about 2 hours rafting! I had scary experience last time, so I’m feared this time, too.

Just after starting, there is the big rock step! We have to avoid this… We get off the boat once and walk, and the boat goes to flow down with no person.

Last time, my first rafting in Telagawaja River, I was really scared that passing again and again under bamboo bridges which were just above my head. I have fear for that this time. Finally, I come closer to the bamboo bridge… Well, I’m okay than I imagined!
Maybe, I was really panicked last time because of the inexperienced fear. It’s thrilling but I’m not scared now!! I could overcome the Telagawaja’s fear! After that, I enjoyed hitting on rocks, wild view of the river. Jordan and Christer are also laughing all the time!!

Around 11:40 am, we arrive at the break point. INTERNATIONAL RAFTING stop the same break point (SOBEK is different place.) If you want to drink beer and juice here, please bring some money with you. The big waterfall is the great view! Deep green and splash water bring us lots of minus ion. Try standing under the waterfall, it must be fun.

For 1 hour after the break, we are coming to the big drop point!! Stop the boat once before the rock step, and lay down on bottom of the boat. I member that I hit my chin by my knee when I dropped last time, so I prepare for it, stretch my knees, and go!

TELAGAWAJA ADVENTURE’s ending point is 50 m forward from the rock step. I was still really excited when I finished!

Return life-jacket, helmet, and oar, and receive valuables. We climb up 50 steps stairs to go to the shower and dressing room. I see the river valley that I just flowed. I’m done!!

I become good friends of the Germany couple, we survived 12 km rafting.
International cultural exchange by rafting!!

This is the shower and dressing room. It’s really old actually, but they are going to renew near future. The big belongings are brought from the reception building and left on the table.

Outside cold-water shower. We cannot wash our body, but just rinse. There is no body soap or soap. This is the dressing room. I wonder if I should put this picture on the homepage or not… As the dressing room in the starting point, the wall is warped and cannot rock. Be careful not to be opened the door!!

After changing clothes, go to the restaurant where locates uphill from the dressing room. Here is also the cozy local restaurant. The varieties of dishes are little less, but it includes Balinese sweets and fruits. Drinks are not included so please order by yourself. Fruit juice Rp.20,000, Mineral water Rp.10,000 etc. Happy time surrounding by green trees!(*´∇`*)

Capcai (Vegetable Stir Fry), Curry Ayam (Chicken Curry Stew), Sate Ayam, Shrimp snack, Mie Goreng, Nasi Goreng, and Vegetable Soup, etc. Tastes are okay, but as the cheap course price, it’s good enough buffet! You can purchase the picture during lunch time.

And then, unfortunately, 250 steps from the restaurant to parking are waiting for us. It’s nightmare for me.

When I ride on the car, I feel good tiredness by enough exercise. On the way back, we fall asleep for sure.

This is the picture, photograph by BALI ADVENTURES. The picture size is the same about original one, and you can purchase it as Rp.40,000. By the way, my oar covered Christer’s face on the picture… Oh, no, what I did for her… I said, “I’m sorry!” again and again. They forgave me, though.

It’s the really reasonable course to enjoy Telagawaja River Rafting. They use same life-jackets and boats as other companies. Guides didn’t have uniforms so they look like just local young Indonesian guys. However, their rafting skills are reliable and they speak good English. Comparing to other companies, the differences are the old building and facilities such as dressing room, WC, and restaurant. They said that they would renew buildings near future, but there were dressing rooms with broken rocks. You should make sure about it.

However, not in Ayung River, but in Telagawaja River, we can enjoy 12 km long rafting with reasonable price.
TELAGAWAJA ADVENTURES (and Hiro-chan) made great effort to offer the course!! The river itself is same Telagawaja River, so if you don’t care about old buildings, I recommend this course!
