On January 15th, 2011we were invited to have babi guling (roast suckling pig) dinner at Loco Cafe in Nusa Dua. Babi guling is a traditional Balinese cuisine, it commonly stuffed with a mixture of onions, garlic, ginger, chili, pepper and candlenuts, roasted with dried coconut shells for several hours. We had 20kg of suckling pig (about 10 portions: two million two hundred thousand rupiah) for 5 people.

We had babi guling dinner at Loco Cafe! This was a rare opportunity to make roast suckling pig, so I was coming to Loco Cafe early☆

We made roast suckling pig in the restaurant! It had good smoky, blown by the wind!!
A bamboo stick is pierced in its mouth until it passes through the anus. It took about three hours to roast it. It stuffed with about 10 kinds of vegetable and spice. Babi guling is special Balinese cuisine….

I’m Koni, I like babi guling very much!!! I’ve been living in Bali for three years. So far I’ve eaten babi guling at many different places, but today’s babi guling was special, very delicious!! There are other places to eat babi guling but already served on the plate (the last picture), it is the first time for me to see suckling pig roasted. It was roasted with dried coconut shells for about 2 to 3 hours. The skin was crispy, and the flesh was soft.
First I tasted only the meet, then I added Balinese sauce, lime, Kusamba salt and sambal matah. This day the 10 portions of babi guling cannot be eaten all by 5 people, so I got wrapped babi guling pork and bringing it home. The same size babi guling costs two million two hundred thousand rupiah. For bigger size you can contact the restaurant!
